AVERAGE PACE: The ride will AVERAGE 22-24 km per hour (14-15
mph), excluding stops. Sometimes we might be going faster (downhill,
flats with tailwind), and other times we might be going slower (uphill,
flats with headwind).
DISTANCE: 25 km (about 15 miles), with potential add-on if we're running early.
ROUTE: Short airport loop, with an added excursion to the
aircraft viewing spot. We'll hang out for a few minutes and chat before
making our way back to Longfellow Gardens. If we're running early, we
could ride north to the greenway, east to W River Road, and then down
towards Minnehaha Falls and ending at Longfellow Gardens.
RIDE LEADERS: Lee Penn and Matt Johnson (ideal to have one more)
SWEEP: TBD (This person rides at the back and helps keep the group together and helps alert riders of vehicles about to pass. This person hopefully has flat fixing skills.)
NO-DROP within reason: This means no rider will be left behind due to mechanicals, traffic signals, and hill climbs. We will regroup after hill climbs. We will regroup should we get split by a light change.
E-Assist bikes are WELCOME so long as riders maintain the pace of the group (i.e., please ride predictably and do not push the pace of the group).
WHAT TO BRING: Helmet, functioning road or gravel style bicycle, water, and a flat repair kit if you have one.
NOTE: If you're keen for a fast ride, please do that BEFORE you come for this memorial ride! We’re directing this comment at one of the ride leaders as well as some of the speedier riders, including some of Randall's group!.
RAIN DATE will be 19 July 2025
